Twelve hours sleep was just what I needed after all the excitement of the past week. Despite the rest we still started the day sluggishly, aided by several vital coffees. By the time I’d eaten a pork rice ball in Shinjuku (think of it as a Japanese bacon sandwich), things were starting to look up. We hit Meiji Shrine which was buzzing with locals, wedding parties and tourists who were buying O-mamori (lucky charms), posing for photos and snapping away with expensive DSLRs respectively. I’m not sure what this pair were posing for but they certainly caught the morning light which dappled through the trees.
