After visiting the observatory, we were driven about 20 clicks up river towards the Joint Security Area. Before we reached the North Korean border we stop at Camp Bonifas in the de-militarised zone, named after an unfortunate US soldier who got axed to death by North Korean soldiers in 1986. Here we are treated to a slideshow about the DMZ given by our Korean tour guide who talks American-English in the style of Ruby Wax. Afterwards we had to sign a declaration stating that we wouldn’t be upset if we were ripped-off by the high prices in the gift shop (or axed to death by North Korean soldiers).
